Spine cloth just a little faded & just a little pecky + spine title gilt has darkened (legible, but appears black). Front hinge cracking repaired. Author's Foreword type-signed, dated Ames, Iowa, November, 1913, speaks of romance, poetry, the noisy realists, our shivering souls, the Anglicizing of the Orient, changing the inner man. Dialogue in play form (though double-spaced stanza-like typesetting) w/ some rambling commentary, soliloquy, Dedication page: "To the multiplied thousands everywhere who have toiled over land and over sea the world around in quest of the Holy Grail this story is dedicated .
