Knopf, 1947. 1947, 1st Edition. Hardcover . Stated First Edition. Hardback, 8vo, gilt on maroon cloth, xiii + 297 + iii pages, VG/no dj. Quite minor wear. A blem to both f&b boards where dj may have adhered. Small slightly darkened spot or two to maroon cloth of spine (handsome spine). "Apparently" 1947 is the date of the First Edition. Stated first edition, but for some reason the date 1947 has been somewhat very carefully erased from both the title and copyright pages (though remnants still legible on the title page using a magnifier). Half-title, frontis & title page each show small moisture stain at top edge (light semi-circle about 1/4 x 1/2 inch). Very slight bit of foxing to endpapers, a few tiny spots to the margins of the color frontis + light to moderate foxing to both of the 16-page b&w photo sections within. A few notes in pencil along the top edge of the FFEP re binocular references within with pencil circling of paragraphs at those pages (240-244 & 283). Maps, Appendix of recommended supplies, equipment, clothing, arms, ammunition, etc. Index, brief Bibliography. Very Good.
