CAMPRA, ANDRÉ - L' Europe Galante Ballet En Musique Represente Par L'Academie Royale De Musique

Amsterdam, Les Heritiers De Antoine Schelte. 1699, First Thus. Full-Vellum, 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Book, 48 PP. This opera is regarded as the first opéra-ballet, with the entrées sharing a common theme - in this case .'love' in four different countries, France (entrée 1), Spain (entrée 2), Italy (entrée 3) and Turkey (entrée 4) - rather than a common narrative. L'Europe galante was first performed at the Paris Opéra on 24 October 1697 under Marin Marais. It was successful and was revived periodically until 1775. Bound with 7 other classic plays such as [e.g.] Iphigenie, Omphale, Marthesie and Roland. Some worming and waterstains at inner margin. Good.
