QUINAULT, PHILIPPE - Armide, Tragedie En Musique
1686, Early Reprint ?. Dec Floral Wraps, 130mm x 75mm. This fragile libretto for Lully's opera states on the title page "Suivant la copie imprimée a Paris", but assuming the date of publication is accurate, then it must be a very early reprint, as the opera was first performed in Paris in February of 1686. This edition is possibly a Dutch reprint. There is some deterioration of the paper internally, but around the gutter margin, and not causing any damage to the printed text. Additionally, there is some light damp-staining throughout, some damage and loss to the floral printed wrappers and two small holes in the blank rear endpaper. There are small indentations extensively marking the lower wrapper, the lower endpaper and the verso of the last leaf of text. The engraved frontispiece is still present. A previous owner has laid down a small ticket to the upper wrapper, and, in a hand later than the publication itself, has written the date followed by "b", the name of the opera, and Quinault's and Lully's names. Vg/N/a.
