PRIVY SEAL PIGOTT, CUTHBERT ADAMSON - Copy of the Charter of the Trinity House of Newcastle Upon Tyne

Newcastle Upon Tyne, Trinity House Newcastle. 1862, First Thus. Pub's Bevelled Leather Gilt, 4to. The original charter dates from July 1st, 1687. This version seems first to have appeared in 1775, where it had been examined and compared with the original charter by Cuthbert Adamson, the then Master of Trinity House in Newcastle. This printed version is printed in black letter type on the recto only, and extends over thirty one pages. There are some light stains and areas of browning in the margins of the text pages, and occasional later pencillings. Each printed page is ruled in red, and the King's name is printed in red on the first page of text. The title page is printed in red and black, and is ruled in red. The binding, which is now somewhat distressed, is very dark blue (or possibly black) grained morocco, gilt and bevelled, with marbled endpapers, and edges stained in red. The binding is chipped at the head and foot of the spine, chafed on the corners, and shows a number of indentations and abrasions. The upper hinge is starting at its head. Both covers are stamped and ruled in gilt, and the upper cover has maritime symbols with the title between them. Vg Internally/N/a.
