- Portraits of Actors
London, John Bell. Binders Full Morocco, Rebacked, 16mo. The book appears to have been made up from plates published by Bell at The British Library, Strand, in the 1780's. The earliest portraits are of writers rather than actors, also a folding plate of Morris Dancers, a plate of specimens of fans, and portraits of Shakespeares house in Stratford, and facsimile signatures. And then the majority of the book is engravings of actors in costume in scenes from Shakespeare. An interesting curiosity. The boards are contemporary straight grain morocco, with contemporary marbled endpapers, and all edges are gilt, but there is a recent matching spine with lettering piece. Very Good/N/a.
