Henri L. M. VanSchaik mentions that '[la Gueriniere's] reputation as an extraordinary teacher had become international and that he received pupils from all over Europe...In contrast to most of his predecessors, la Gueriniere was evidently a very methodical man...a strict scheme and stays with it...he invented the shoulder in....it was the great riding master La Gueriniere who produced the most revolutionary book on riding of all times...based it on simplicity and facts, in order to be completely understood by his readers'.
