1981. Cloth with dustjacket. New York: Hill and Wang. 1981. First American edition. Octavo. Gilt decorated cream cloth and black paper covered boards. Edges have a trace of soiling else fine in dustjacket with some light wear to the extremities and closed tear to the lower front panel which has been mended internally with cello tape else very good. Previous owner's name in black ink on top front fly. Translated from the original French edition published in 1980 as "La Chambre Claire" by Richard Howard. A nice copy of writer Roland Barthes now classic writings on photography. Scarce in the cloth first edition especially with the dustjacket. A wonderful book.
