The author, William Entwisle, was probably the most important figure ever involved in the Poultry Fancy. He was responsible for introducing many new bantams taking the large fowl which existed and then, by ""scientific breeding"" he bantamised them. He also established a standard for each breed therefore laying the foundation for the modern day Poultry Club Standards (from the dust jacket flap). This is the ""Poultry Classic Reprint"" of the original work that was published in 1894. The illustrations are by J. W. Ludlow, one of the outstanding poultry artists of the Victorian era. No ownership marks. Small bump to one outer corner; a bright and clean copy in fine condition is a fine dust jacket..
