Gallison, John - Address, Delivered at the Fourth Anniversary of the Massachusetts Peace Society, December 25th, 1819Boston, Hilliard and Metcalf, Printers, 1820. Pamphlet. Pamphlet, apparently disbound from a larger work. Lacking any wraps that may have been issued. 18 pp. A work addressing the persistence of wars throughout history, despite the strength of Christianity and it being a 'religion of peace.' Gallison touches on the supposed barbarism of ancient Rome and Greece, as well as chivalry and patriotism as causes of wars throughout history, although he seems to give the United States a pass in light of the American Revolution. GOOD condition. Heavy browning, minor scattered foxing present. Inscription across the top of the title page. One small stray pencil note in text. See Sabin 26419 for this and one other work by Gallison. Good .
