A tight and nice first edition of this hefty biography -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed boldly in full by Luthin in black ink. Near fine. Invitation for the February 9, 1960 meeting of the New York Civil War Round Table. Luthin underlines "WILL" attend (and scribbles out "WILL NOT"), notes a $5.00 enclosure and signs at the close. Tipped in before the half-title page is a copy of a Typed Letter Signed from Luthin to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93), noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar and the Round Table officer to whom this invitation reply would have been sent. Dated 25 October 1960, Luthin chats about Round Table matters and mentions having copies of "The Real Abraham Lincoln" on hand for their next meeting. Gates is thanked in this book's acknowledgments (page viii). Autograph material by this noted Lincoln historian (1905-62) is seldom seen. .
