JAMES, Henry - The Awkward Age

London, Hamish Hamilton, 1948. Hardcover. 16mo. Red paper over boards with gilt spine lettering, decorative dust jacket. xxix, 449pp. Very good/very good. Tight and attractive first of this "Novel Library" edition, from the library of literary critic and author Joseph J. Waldmeir (1923-2013), whose faint red pencil underlinings appear occasionally. The words "cute" and "Henry James" rarely go together -- but this is the cutest little Henry James edition we've encountered. .
