HENRY, O. - The Complete Works of O. Henry Volume II

Garden City, Doubleday & Company, 1953. Hardcover. Foreword by Harry Hansen. 8vo. Blue and orange cloth, dust jacket. viii, pp. 811-1692. Very good/good plus. Jacket edgeworn and a bit rubbed, with discreet old tape mends and chip at head of spine. Tight and nice second volume (only) of what the jacket front panel describes as "The Definitive Collection of America's Master of the Short Story" -- with a nice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from Hansen, 1p, 8" X 10 3/4", New York, NY, 1956 May 23. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On "The World Almanac" letterhead, Hansen notes that "It occurs to me that the World Almanac ought to list the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy" and requests addresses. Signed boldly in full. Hansen (1884-1977) was a prolific editor, literary critic, journalist and historian. .
