 1554311803,
New York, W.W. Norton & Company, 1961. Hardcover. 8vo. Black cloth spine and blue paper over boards, 256pp. Very good. Binding slightly soiled, but tight and internally fine. First edition, bearing a choice presentation inscription from the author in blue ballpoint on the front flyleaf: "To my very dear friends / Nancy & Adlai / With love from / Barbara." Ward, the Baroness Jackson of Lodsworth (1914-81), was a highly influential British economist and author who specialized in developing country issues. She befriended many American policy makers such as John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Adlai E. Stevenson II -- to whose son (Illinois senator, 1969-81) and his wife this unique copy is handsomely inscribed. .
