FDNY BATTALION COMMANDER RICHARD 'PITCH' PICCIOTTO WITH DANIEL PAISNER - Last Man Down. The Fireman's Story. The Heroic Account of How Pitch Picciotto Survived the Collapse of the Twin Towers and Led His Men to Safety.

Great Britain, BCA, 2002. First Reprint, Binding: Cloth, Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall 0752852620 Hardback On 11 September, leading a company of firefighters up stairway B of the north tower of the World Trade Center, Battalion Commander Richard 'Pitch' Picciotto was the highest-ranking fire department commander in the building when it fell. Pitch and his men were on the thirty-fifth floor racing upward when the world seemed to explode around them as the south tower collapsed. Realising the possible fate of the north tower, he led the firefighters down to the twelfth floor where they were met with a horrifying sight - more than fifty workers, too crippled, too old or too weak to have made their way out on their own. Pitch ordered his firefighters to form a human chain and pushed and cajoled them down the stairs. He was on the seventh floor stairwell when the north tower fell, accordioning into a mound of burning rubble. Pitch and a handful of survivors woke to find themselves buried on the landing between the second and fourth floors. This is the story of how Pitch Picciotto led the survivors to safety. Illustrated.
