Closed tears on the sides of the table of contents through page 4 (about 1.5" long). Light smudges on page 39. Page 261-262 is dog-eared. Otherwise, text unmarked. The rear hinge is cracking, but the binding is still generally secure for reading purposes. A very scarce early edition; the first two editions printed by McClurg in 1903 are hard to find and collectible. A classic of African-American literature by NAACP founder W.E.B. Du Bois!.
