Albert Payson Terhune - Columbia Stories

 1540424077,
NY, Dillingham, 1897. 1st Edition. Leather bound. 214p. Recently rebound in full blue morocco leather, stamped in gilt, with five raised bands and gilt decor on spine, marbled endpapers. Fine condition. THE RARE FIRST PRINTING OF THE AUTHOR'S SECOND BOOK. Terhune published this collection of stories about undergraduate life at his alma mater, Columbia University, when he was first starting his writing career. His second work and first book of fiction, the book is exceedingly rare with only a handful of copies known to exist. This copy actually came from the Vreeland collection which consisted primarily of Terhune's personal copies of his books which were given tio his close friends the Vreelands after his widow's death. Unfortunately, Terhune did not identify his ownership in any manner so we cannot definitively state this was the author's copy. This book was purchased disbound and we had the custom leather binding made for the book by Chicago bookbinder Marianna Brotherton. .
