SHOW CARD - Pair of large show cards for Byrrh.

Thuir, France: Violet Freres, c. 1890. Pair of show cards, each 350 x 230 mm. and a little chipped. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Byrrh was first made in 1866 by Pallade and Simon Violet, trademarked in 1877 and continues to be made to this day, though now owned by Pernod-Ricard. It is an aperitif made from wine, mistelle and quinine and originally marketed as a health drink, to avoid antagonising the established aperitif producers, and sold by pharmacies.
