The frontispiece depicts Jesus Christ holding a scroll headed 'The Christian Faith' accompanied by Moses with the Tablets, above these two figures a number of cherubs disport themselves in the sky. The Royalist divine Richard Allestree is generally regarded as the primary, if not sole, author, an attribution first given in Nichols' Anecdotes, ii. 603.
