Genoa's elevated highways system was built in the 1960s, and while connecting up separated parts of this hilly city, its visual impact remains contentious. Bona and Occhialini's proposals, to paint the grey pillars and bridges in bright colours, sparked a debate on how to integrate infrastructure into the city.
