First translated in 1934 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali in Lahore, this translation ranks along with that of Marmaduke Pickthall as the most widely known and used in the worldhas been .This edition has been slightly modernized to bring it more into line with 21st century usage. Abdullah Yusuf Ali (1872-1953) was an Islamic scholar who was picked by Sir Muhammad Iqbal to be principal of Islamia College, Lahore. He later moved to England where he died and is buried close to the other famous translator, Marmaduke Pickthall.
