Pictorial orange cloth, lightly rubbed at spine ends in mildly faded dj, small stamp on ffep, otherwise internally fine. Mulk Raj Anand (1905-2004) was one of the foremost Indian literary figures of the twentieth century. Long-time editor and publisher of Marg, the art and culture journal, and a noted short story writer, he was probably the formemost Indian novelist of the thirties and forties with his Untouchable in 1935, The Village in 1939 and Across the Black Water in 1940. He wrote much about the difficulties of those at the bottom of India's social hierarchy.
