Jacques Marquette (1637-1675) was a French Jesuit missionary who founded the first European settlement in Michigan and was the first European to explore and map the northern portion of the Mississippi River Valley. Claude Allouez (1622-1689) was also a French Jesuit missionary. He explored North America and started missions among the indigenous people near Lake Superior. Leather is scuffed at extremities, most notable is a 1 1/2" strip of scuffed leather starting at head of spine, end papers lightly stained from glue, otherwise very good condition.
