Gilt title and decoration with gilt crest of Doncaster Grammar School to front on red supple leather boards which have wear to spine head and a touch to corner tips. Internally there is a prize label to front endpaper dated July 1930 and some pages have a little ceasing to top corner tips else very clean, tight and unmarked. viii + 890 pages. Illustrations by Harold Piffard. Not dated but at least 1930 per prize label. William Makepeace Thackeray's seminal work which is a sequel to 'Henry Esmond', and tells the story of Henr Esmond's twin grandsons, George and Henry Warrington. Henry's romantic entanglements with an older woman lead up to his taking a commission in the British army and fighting under the command of General Wolfe at the capture of Quebec. On the outbreak of the American War of Independence he takes the revolutionary side. George, who is also a British officer, thereupon resigns his commission rather than take up arms against his brother. NOT EX LIB B2D. Very Good/No Jacket.
