On monday 18th December 1905 there is a concert directed by Joseph Jongen , entirely devoted to works of J.S. Bach. This unique album offers an insight into the workings of this very sofisticated music academy in a period when Brussels occupied an important place in Europe's music scene. Among the honorary members of the academy we find Mrs. Anna Boch, Arthur De Greef , Vincent d'Indy, Octave Maus, M. Schlesinger , Raoul Warocqué, Eugène Ysaye , ....The founder and first director of the Institute : Théo Charlier (1868 - 1944 ) was a composer and a central musical figure in Belgium. He was also a trumpet virtuoso and is credited with the first performance of Bach's Brandenburg concertos in modern times ( in April 1889). There still exists an International Trumpet Competition which carries his name.. .
