(we acquired this copy in Paris so we presume it once belonged to the king's library). The author was a staunch supporter of the death penalty. This publication contains at the end several letters of thanks for a previous publication of the author ( Trattato dei Delitti e delle Pene) in which he also pleaded in favour of the death penalty. The last letter however, by Chateaubriand, clearly expresses opposition to the death penalty.. .
