Batavia, Bataviaasch Genootschap (TYP.), 1847. Recent private cloth. pp. [63]-78. Dutch language report of a journey from Sambas to Montrado, West Coast dutch Borneo, partly by goverment vessel and partly by foot, including a description of author's stay at Montrado, West Coast dutch Borneo, in 1844 which includes notes on goldmining in the region by chinese members of Montrado Kongsi, author's stay at Montraro Kongsi-house, talks with a former Captain-Chinese by the name of Tjoe Ahoei, the Chinese New Year Festival, political situation and the difficult relation with local Dayak tribes and the Chinese, loyalty of the Chinese to dutch Goverment. Although author notes reveals that he failed to supply information on local census of the Chinese he notes that the Montrado Kongsi is able to raise 4000 armed Chinese if necessary. Although notes are rather superficial the report supplies an interesting picture of Montrado, goldmining, physical geography and the local chinese Kongsi. Untrimmed copy. Fine.
