The author was a missionary on Nias, later murdered on Mentawei.. Although title-p. suggests 4 parts, the volume actually contains 5 parts. The 5th part:Fetero is the most important and rarest part. This book is a gold-mine of information on all aspects of the culture of Nias; despite its title it supplies extensive important info. on life-cycle, class-structure, various ceremonies, clothing, housing, religion, economy, the influence of Islam & the controversy with christianity..
