- The American Home October 1936
New York, Country Life - American Home Corp., 1936. Soft Cover, Folio - over 12" - 15" tall, Very Good/Wraps, Very Good, Nice copy of a less commonly seen early decorating magazine. Only faults are soiling to back white cover, a small tear to bottom of spine neatly repaired with almost invisible, non-yellowing archival tape, a flat crease at back cover and a few corresponding page corners and a tiny crease to bottom front corner. Subscription form bound in. In 1936 it was all about color for walls and floors. Gone were the "safe" colors of the 20's -- time now for vibrancy. Of special note is the illustrated article on furniture woods, some of which were exotic. Also has articles on planting irises, innovative ideas for shutters, children and camp, recipes and more. Great ads, too, including a full-page silver metallic one for Wear-Ever Cooking Utensils, and a full-page color one of two women raiding the fridge done by Boni Ami. Of special interest is a Camel cigarette ad on back cover that used society women of Philadelphia to sell the product.
