The Reverend Ramseyer was one of the first missionaries who served on the Gold Coast and Ashanti (today Ghana). He found the Basel Presbyterian Church in Kumasi. This account describes the two missionaries' captivity at Kumasi when an Ashanti army in 1869 invaded from the east.
