Jules Oppert was a member of the French Archeological Mission to Mesopotamia 1851-54, during which the site of ancient Babylon was identified. Deals with the language, mainly the grammar, and gives detailed descriptions of different inscriptions from Bisoutoun, Elvend, Persépolis, Nakch-i-Roustam and Xerxès.
