. Pp. lxvii, (1), 450; (viii), 564; (viii), 527, (1), viii. With 28 engraved plates. A good, uncut copy in contemporary boards, cloth spines (slightly faded) with title labels. Old ownership signature on titles. Reverend Heber, the Bishop of Calcutta, first arrived in India in 1823. He travelled extensively around the country for some years and died in Madras in 1826. His work is based on letters and diary notes and was posthumously published by his widow Amalia Heber. First published in quarto in the same year (1828). Occasionally some minor staining but overall a crisp, good copy. "A highly valuable and most delightful work" (Lowndes ii, p. 1030).
