With dedication to Schefer by the author. Count Kleczkowski, former French charge d'affaires in Beijing and later professor of Chinese at the School of Oriental languages in Paris. The manual is divided into two parts, of which the first is a presentation of the Chinese language (writing, pronunciation, literature) in French. The second part comprises a Chinese - French vocabulary mainly based on Gonçalves Arte China (1829), including a word for word translation as well as made up sentences. Cordier BS 1664.Provenance: Charles Henri Auguste Schefer (1820-98), French orientalist and diplomat, who in 1857 was appointed professor of Persian at Ecole des languages Orientales.
