Small 8vo. Pp. (vi), 326. With head and tail pieces. Contemporary full calf, spine gilt with five raised bands, worn. Bookplate. Endpapers browned. First edition of this important, early work on Makasar situated in the southern part of Celebes (today Sulawesi). The account describes the geography, natural history, manners and customs, religion etc. It is one of the earliest eye-witness accounts; the first in a western language of Makasar.
