Second edition of a missionary work which to a large extent based on Antoine du Montyon's work published in 1811 under the title "Exposé statistique du Tunkin, de la Cochinchine, ... sur la relation de M. La Bissachère". La Bissachère (1764-1830) was a French missionary who arrived in Tonkin in 1790 where he remained for 17 years. He was very successful in his missionary work and converted many inhabitants. He travelled extensively in the area. This work contains accurate and interesting information about the countries dealing with geography, geology, zoology, commerce, navigation, commerce, politics, military forces, religion, customs and manners, etc. Cordier BI 998.
