Contemporary marbled paper boards, flat calf spine, richly decorated in gilt, marbled end papers. With some staining in the text. First edition. Scarce. Hager (1757-1819) was professor of oriental languages at Pavia in today's northern Italy. Hager's Chinese works have been heavily critized by the sinologists A. Montucci and H.J. Klaproth.
