Harris Collection, p.41. ¶ Brownell, educated as a lawyer decided upon literature instead shortly after graduating. At the onset of the Civil War, he became a volunteer and rose through the ranks to become Admiral Farragut�s secretary. This copy bears the following inscription: �Gen. Lewis C. Richmond/with the author�s compliments and regards.�
