New York, n.d. [ca. late 30s]. 11 x 8-1/2 inches. . Fine condition. ¶ J. Blan Van Urk, author of The Story of American Foxhunting and other sporting histories, as well as the children's book Little Charlie the Fox left, on his death, the typescripts of two short stories, offered here. The first is �Scotch and Soda�, which bears his notation: �A satirical yarn about two cream-colored mules (based on fact). Should be illustrated with drawings showing these extraordinary animals in front of plow, foxhunting, playing polo, and jumping�. Present are the original 15-page typescript and two carbons, one of which has been edited by the author with various corrections, deletions and additions. The second story, a ten-page carbon, is untitled; it is in the form of a letter home from one of a pair of young ladies who have come to New York to visit the 1939-40 World's Fair, and is replete with the names of the day--Gypsy Rose Lee, Groven Whalen, Thomas E. Dewey, and others, amid much amusing social satire. We have been unable to trace these stories, and believe they remain unpublished
