The author was an extensive landowner in the counties of Stafford and Derby, an M.P., he was a well known public man and his speeches and pamphlets on various subjects were numerous; but it is the purpose of the present volume, simply to collect, in the entirety, his valuable writings on Agriculture. Sections on Cattle and Sheep, Agricultural Drainage, Ancient Agricultural Literature and High Farming (previously unpublished), The Preface is initialed H.S. but the signature of Joseph Parkes, the editor is written beneath it. This copy with bookplate of Edward Ellice in the front pastedown with a presentation note on the foretite : Mr Edward Elliice for the Glenquoich Library from a subscriber The Ellice family pog Glen Garry had Glenquoich odge now beneath the waters of the dammed Loch Quoich. The book is firmly bound in haf keather with marbled boards and edges with five gilt tooled raised bands and a black title label on the spine. Bookplate as described. The front hinge is superfically cracked but the binding is sound with a booksellers label (Seton, bookbinder, Edinburgh) on the rear pastedown. Some of the prelims are a little wrinkled and there is a 2cmx1cm corner missing from one of the blank prelims. A fine wee book. See scans. . Very Good
