Gould, R. E., - Yankee Storekeeper.

NY, Bantam, (1948). Revised. G PB. Full of Yankee wisdom & wry humor, a foxy old storekeeper sits back & tells of his 4 decades runing a general store in Somerset. County, Maine. Gould got his first taste of trading on his father's farm, where his days were spent trapping, soap-making, a vigorous country boy's life. In those days, a country storekeeper had to comb the corners of the earth for his customers and be ready to supply them with everthing from pink salmon from Alaska to pink corsets from Paris, from rocking chairs to wrist watches. He clothed the town's children, fed them & stocked their houses when they grew up; and in the end he buried them, for Gould was the town's only & its "leading" mortician. Cover shows the leathery face of an old Yankee storekeeper.in a country store. Owner names.
