JAMESON, JAMES S - Story of the Rear Column of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition

R H Porter, London. 1890, First Edition. Hardcover. 454 pages plus folded maps (complete). A sturdy copy. Jameson, the heir to the Jameson Whiskey company, was part of the ill-fated, chaotic Rear Column with the aim of supporting Stanley's intention to assist Emir Pasha. Not only was Jameson, known for his arrogance and recklessness, caught up in the dissembling of the Expedition, but he was embroiled in a shocking scandal where he was accused of buying a young girl (for six handkerchiefs) in order to sketch her being eaten in a cannibalistic rite! This book was published by his widow in an attempt to clear his name. The boards of this copy have some wear about all edges and seams, some marks, some stains from handling and storage. They are placid, secure. The contents are pleasing. They are very tight, clean, clear, very confident, certain, audaciously eager. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services. Very Good/No Jacket.
