TÅkyÅ, Hakubunkan, Meiji 26 [1893] 4 volumes in 2, 10 7/16" x 7 1/8", blue-grey covers, string-bound fukuro toji Japanese-style with printed paper title labels. The preface of series one, originally published in 1815 by the great Rimpa artist, Sakai HÅ-itsu, was written by Kamaeda BÅsai and the final note by HÅ-itsu, the second series appeared in 1826, the year of HÅ-itsu's death and it is generally acnowledged that his disciple, Suzuki Ki-itsu, brought the series to completion. The preface to the second series is signed by Tani BunchÅ and the final note by HÅ-itsu. A compilation of b+w woodcut renditions of paintings extant in Japan in the early 19th century, done by the great late 17th, early 18th century painter, Ogata KÅrin (1658-1716), whose work many artists of the time greatly admired. This issue appeared during Meiji, probably printed from the same blocks as the original editions, as it retains all the prints, prefaces and afterwards of the original editions. .
