19. [Cherries on a black ground]. ItÅ� Wako 伊藤倭å­�. Sheet size 22.5 x 32cm and image size 9 x 18cm. Mezzotint print of cherries on a black ground marked "èp. d'artiste" and signed in pencil. ItÅ� Wako 伊藤倭å­� (b. 1945) was born in Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, the Northern island of Japan. In 1967, while still in his early 20's, he won an award in the annual ZendÅ� exhibition å-¨é�“展 in Sapporo. A printmaker known for his mezzotints of fruits and flowers, he went on to participate in shows in the US, Australia, Japan and across Europe. Mezzotint is such a demanding medium that few have mastered it. It lends great gravitas to these simple images. .
