From a total edition limited to 3100 copies, this is number 23 of 50 copies especially bound in leather. Color illustrated throughout. Mostly English language text, some French: the original French-language Preface, by Frank Dunand, follows an English translation, and the title of each print is also given in French. Quarto, 28 x 22.5 cm, full brown leather with gilt title to spine. Housed in the publisher's wood-veneered slipcase with matching leather trim. Alfred Baur (Swiss, 1865-1951) formed his collection of Japanese prints over forty years, from 1909 through 1949. Along with his collections of Japanese lacquer, netsuke, and sword fittings, and Chinese imperial ceramic ware, jades and snuff bottles, it is the nucleus of he Baur Foundation Museum of Far Eastern art.
