THE GREAT CHALICE OF ANTIOCH on which are depicted in sculpture the earliest known portraits of Christ, apostles and evangelists. New York: Kouchakji Freres, 1923. From a numbered edition of 1000 copies, designed and decorated by Edward B. Edwards, and printed on handmade paper, this is number 165. Illustrated with 12 original etchings on copper of the chalice portraits by Margaret W. Kinney, 47 photogravures after original negatives by the author and F. Kouchakji that show the chalice in detail and from many angles, and 4 diagrams, of which 2 are photogravures. Two folio volumes, 18.25" by 14.5", bound in quarter brown leather and light brown cloth, with gilt decoration and lettering on spines and upper boards. Volume I, text and diagrams: x, [2], 194 pp. Volume II, photogravures, etchings and diagrams: [viii] + 60 plates, each accompanied by a tissue guard with descriptive letterpress. A bit of rubbing to spines, with some negligible scuffing to cloth, but clean and fine throughout. Offered with: THE GREAT CHALICE OF ANTIOCH, by Gustavus A. Eisen. New York: Fahim Kouchakji, 1933. Color frontispiece + 32 illustrations throughout text. [ii], 22 pp. Small folio, 14" by 10", khaki cloth, with title printed in green to upper board. The author explains in the text (pp. 6-7) that this economical monograph, a brief nontechnical account of the chalice, was produced to supply popular demand and interest. Some edgewear to cloth, but clean within and without, and very good plus overall. Laid in is a brochure from summer, 1934, when the chalice and other items that were found with it were exhibited in the Hall of Religions at the Chicago "A Century of Progress" Exposition. .
