1973. (ShinchÅ« KÅtei) Kokuyaku HonzÅ KÅmoku (新註校定) åoe‹è¯æoe¬è‰ç¶±ç›® (also HonsÅ KÅmoku), 15 vols [Bencao Gangmu - Materia Medica], by Li Shizhen æŽæ™‚ç原; translated by Shirai KÅtarŠ白井å-‰å¤ªéƒŽ, Suzuki Masaumi 鈴æoe¨çoeŸæµ·ç›£, et al Shunyodo 春陽堂, publisher ShÅwa 48 [1973] 15 volumes, bound Western-style in decorated cloth over boards in slipcases. The late 16th century Chinese "Materia Medica" Bencao Gangmu was originally written by botanist Li Shizhen æŽæ™‚ç原 (1518-1593) and imported into Japan by the early 17th century. The first Japanese edition HonzÅ KÅmoku æoe¬è‰ç¶±ç›® appeared in 1637, the definitive enlarged Japanese edition in 1714, with native Japanese plants added. The Edo era versions were printed in classical Chinese with diacritical marks (kanbun 漢文) to aid the Japanese reader. This set at hand was translated into modern postwar Japanese and is thus useful to a contemporary Japanese audience. The binding decorations are after designs by the famous artist Tsuda SeifÅ« 津田é’楓 (1880-1978), here still in excellent, clean condition. Complete. One of the most important guides to the medicinal uses of plants in East Asia. .
