DISRAELI, Benjamin, Earl of Beaconsfield - Wondrous Tale of Alroy. The Rise of Iskander

 1529620965,
1833. [DISRAELI, Benjamin, Earl of Beaconsfield] THE WONDROUS TALE OF ALROY. THE RISE OF ISKANDER. By the Author of VIVIAN GREY, CONTARINI FLEMING, &c. In Two Volumes. VOL. I.[-II.] Philadelphia: Carey, Lea and Blanchard, 1833. First American edition, the same year as the British first. Two 12mo. volumes, untrimmed. 212;225 pp. Publisher's advertisements are bound-in at the start of the first volume and at the end of the second volume, [4] and [8] pp. respectively. (Among the titles on offer are Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Jane Austen's Emma, which is listed as "in press.") Contemporary publisher's binding: dun paper boards, brick linen back with paper label. Early and possibly contemporary ink ownership (Geo. A. Botts) and a mid-twentieth century bookseller's label (Claitor's of Baton Rouge, LA) on front pastedown in each volume. Bindings show general rubbing and soiling, are sunned on spines, and the labels are abraded and nearly illegible. Volume 1 is missing the rear fly-leaf and a blank, and one leaf (p. 103/4) is torn but without loss. Text is quite clean but for a couple of foxed leaves in each volume. A very good and sound copy in contemporary bindings. Rare. .
