First edition. 8vo. dark green cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt; frontis portrait and illustration to title page. Pencil ownership of George Ellis, a president of the Massachusetts Historical Society; with tipped-in card granting permission for Mr. Ellis to visit the grounds of Hawthornden in 1838. Bookplate to rpd. A hint of bowing and skew to binding, there are some slight nicks to cloth at spine, with light wear to cloth at other extremes. There is some slight wrinkling at the midpoint of the spine, with a hint of bubbling to cloth along the edges, and a few faint spots of dampstain. Hinges are starting, but text is clean and bright. An attractive binding. .
