Originally 6 vols. in 11 text, w. maps & 4 vols. in 6 Atlases w. appr. 335 plates, many coloured, & 54 maps. Consisted of parts on the voyage itself, Hydrographie & physique, zoologie, botanique, cryptogamie and phanérogamie. 'One of the major French pacific voyages of the 19th century. ... Duperrey, the leader of this expedition, had already circumnavigated the globe under Freycinet, Dumont-D'Urville... was Duperrey's second in command, and René Lesson, was the naturalist of the voyage. The Coquille called at Brazil, The Falkland Islands, Concepcion, Callao, and Payta. In the Pacific the ship visited ... Tahiti... Tonga, Rotuma, The Gilbert and Caroline Islands, ... Australia was visited twice, and the explorations made of New Zealand and the Maori culture were particularly significant. Vast quantities of ethnographic and scientific data were collected. ...
