French caption upper center within architectural border. Lower center 'Leide, chez Pierre vander Aa.' From the folio van der Aa. Palembang, City on Sumatra Indonesia (East Indies). The VOC decided to gain a foothold in Palembang because of the rich gold deposits and pewter mining possibilities. On the engraving, divided into 2 separate engrs. we see the small fortress of Cambare, Fort Matapurl. 3 Fort Bamagangian & 4. The Royal Palace. All under siege by a large number of Dutch ships, the fortifications going up in flames.
